Objectives

CO2 control for a clean environment!

The aims of the CO2-HyBrid respond to the call Energy – Carbon Capture and Storage objectives:

  1. Recovery of 80% of CO2 at sufficiently high purity for storage or reuse. The industries of which CO2-HyBrid focuses (energy plant, Waste-2-Energy) have a great contribution (over then 50%) to the global CO2 emission. The novelty of the CO2-HyBrid consists in adaptation and implementation of a hybrid solution to fossil fuels and waste/biomass based power plants which have large variation both of volume streams and CO2 concentration in the flue gases (5 to 40 %). The technologies based on membrane and or chemical absorption process for CO2 capturing are sustainable and flexible being easily adapted to these challenges;

  2. Estimated costs: 15-25 €/ton CO2 (state of art: 20-90 €/ton CO2);

  3. CO2-HyBrid continues where EU projects NanoGLOWA ended (TRL 4-5) and CHEMCAP and CARBOTECH finalized (TRL 4) and will scale up and demonstrate the hybrid solution based on membrane (proof of concept, TRL4 POLYMEM project Norway) and a chemical absorption process technology at least TRL 6, using 2 pilot installations.
